We never thought we would get away with saying this...but summer does seem to be here, albeit possibly temporarily in the South East. And if you do live in the South East, then, perhaps like me, you woke up find a layer of fine sand on your car this morning? It's important to keep your car hood or soft top conditioned in the winter months, but it's equally, if not more so important to protect it from the heat, direct sun UV's and acidic rain in the summer months as well.

Snow Damage to Car Hoods and Soft Tops

Hood Cleaning
The worst winter in upto 20 years! That's what the weathermen here in the UK are telling us. Wherever you're living on the UK mainland this winter, you'd not have escaped the heavy snowfalls and then subsequent ice. But what consequence does a foot of snow and frozen ice have on our car hoods? Depending on the type of soft top you have, the results could be dramatically different.

As you may or may not be aware, when Convertible Cars
are out of Warranty, top Frame, Bow Links and other frame components
may no longer have the alignment they did when your convertible was
new. For this reason when you have a new Soft Top fitted to your car we would ALWAYS advice that the Convertible Hood be left in the UP position for a minimum of 24hrs for a Vinyl Hood and 7 Days for a Mohair Hood. This allows the Soft Top time to relax and adjust, or become 'seasoned' to the Top Frame.`

It's official! It's 'that time of year' again when we come out to our cars in the morning not sure if we'll see frost...or worse! If, like us, you live in the South East, you'd have awoken this morning to a layer of snow which had frozen solid during the night. As well as a frozen windscreen to contend with, owners of soft top cars also have their soft top windows to contend with when de-icing their cars.

I spent a whole day cleaning my car yesterday. Possibly not as bad as many would think because I find cleaning by car quite theraputic. I start my hosing down the car, adding some wheel cleaning gel, then cleaning the car with 2 buckets of good quality car shampoo (NEVER washing up liquid as this contains salt), a rinse off using a power jet wash, then dressing the tyres, applying a layer of decent Carnauba (a high quality natural car wax), buffing to a fine shine and then tackling the soft top...
