Soundless driving, with a sound car hood

Driving a cabriolet feels like a luxury on a hot summers day, the wind through your hair, the sun on your face... but the circle of life continues, and autumn and winter soon dawn on us. Time to get your jackets on and your car hoods up. Its not so bad, I hear you say, driving with the soft top up! Its like driving any other car.

Well sadly, driving through the pelting rain whilst listening to the radio seems more of a chore than a means to relax. The rain and wind battering your car can create such a racket, you can hardly think, let alone listen to your favorite radio station! Sometimes even driving on a clear day is a noisy ordeal, overtaking lorries, tractors and other cars can be rather loud.

Car hood manufacturers have realised there is much room for improvement when it comes to cabriolet acoustics. Robbins Auto Tops, ETC's largest soft top supplier, have done alot of research into improving the ways in which environmental noise can be blocked out. Different types of fabrics were tested and designed to keep the maximum amount of noise pollution out of the car, creating a more calming and relaxed driving atmosphere.

There are products out there that can be attached to the headlining of your soft top to dampen the exterior sounds, which will improve the driving experience somewhat, but compared to Robbins hoods they are just an expensive gimmick. Rather than spending money on a new car hood and a gimmick that does not really work, its best to get an already soundproof car hood.

Robbins understand that quality is a priority when manufacturing hoods. That is why all the fabrics that Robbins use on the car hoods come from Haartz, or are made by Robbins themselves. Haartz understand the simple rules of thermodynamics and the ways in which sound travels and have applied this to their manufacturing techniques. The fabrics are manufactured in such a way that it dampens external noise pollution. These car hoods even beat the original factory hoods by a minimum of 2 decibels. The way in which Haartz manufactures the fabric is different to any other hood fabric manufacturer. They have perfected the blending of 3 types of fabric through a heated press, which bonds them together, forming a strong barrier against external sound.
